The Song Collectors Collective puts people first. A song collector’s passion to meet people or record them must never compromise the comfort, privacy or trust of others.
Tradition Bearers, their families and their communities should be treated with respect and humility at all times and although the views or behaviour you encounter may at times not conform to your own, your duty is to remain impartial and respectful of their choices and lifestyle.
It is very important to the SCC that the recordings are made accessible to the individuals who were recorded; this is both for their own use and to maintain trust and fair exchange between the collectors and the Tradition Bearers themselves. Making such recordings publicly available via the Song Collectors website or otherwise is not essential and is only done with the expressed consent of each contributor (or the consent of their guardian if they are a minor or vulnerable adult). Certain conditions may be negotiated with contributors too, such as not wanting certain parts of a recording published or asking to wait for a certain period of time before anything is published.
