Since 2014, we have been running on an annual basis the SCC Gathering – a day of exploration into folk cultures and song collecting from around the world.
Former guest speakers have included Shirley Collins; raconteur Hugh Lupton; ethnomusicologists Angela Impey and Shzr Ee Tan; Wren Music founder Paul Wilson; ethnobotanist Sarah Edwards;prolific folklore archivist Doc Rowe; founder and director of The Museum Of British Folklore, Simon Costin; noted singer and one of the organisers of the Goilin Traditional Singers Club in Dublin, Jerry O’Rielly; singer and tradition bearer, Nan Connors; Scottish singer and song collector, Margaret Bennett; leader of the James Madison Carpenter Collection Project, Dr Julia Bishop; virtuoso kora player, Kadialy Kouyate; author of We Borrow the Earth, Patrick Jasper Lee; folklorist extraordinaire and author Steve Roud; Lead Curator of World and Traditional Music at the British Library, Dr Janet Topp Fargion; and many others.
