Sam Lee
Song collector and founding member of the SCC
Since bursting on to the folk scene at the end of the Noughties, Sam has blazed a trail as an outstanding singer and song collector, inspiring a new generation of performers to draw on living source singers rather than books and records, with a repertoire steeped in the reek and smoke of tales of love, parting, exile and murder from our islands’ deep history. He’s also been the driving force behind the eclectic, award-winning folk club The Nest Collective, which has brought traditional music, folk history and lore from around the world to all kinds of new stages and venues.
James McDonald
Song collector and founding member of the SCC
James grew up in County Wexford and now lives in London where he works as a film archivist. Through a love of the traditional songs from his native county and country, he has been learning and recording with singers from the Irish Traveller community and sean-nós singers around Ireland and many other cultures around the world. James has also written many traditional-style songs in Irish and English. He is a founder member of the SCC and has produced much of the video content for the website and is passionate about empowering others to help conserve such fragile heritage.
